SITE NOT FOUND AS PART OF: GIGAPIXEL ARTZOOM
Size: 4' x 70'
The unveiling celebration of Gigapixel ArtZoom was a sold out event at the Seattle Art Museum on January 24th. Nearly 50 artists and artists collectives participated to be recorded in performance mode through the lens of Michael Cohen, Matt Uyttendaele and a small team at Microsoft Research. They have pioneered the technology behind high-resolution cameras that create panoramic images, zoomable to very fine detail.
About Error 404: Site Not Found as part of Gigapixel ArtZoom Project: The park-scale venue features a large-size banner reading "Error 404: Site Not Found," and the artists themselves holding signs of hyperlink hands in the act of franticly clicking a field of grass. In a similar way, on the web, an error message might be experienced when a user attempts to click a broken link. The piece suggests that what appears to be a dead-end is in fact an actual place, a site imaginably of infinite possibilities, available again in the future. Originally, a gallery version of this project appeared at SOIL in Seattle.
Special thanks to Ryan Peterson and Elise Ballard for contributing to the making of the piece and for performing in it.
