Mapping Memory in the Arctic

Description

Art & Tech Symposium at Cornish College of the Arts

Featuring: Mapping Memory in the Arctic

I was delighted to take part in the Art & Tech Symposium, a vibrant one-day gathering that brought together artists, technologists, designers, and educators to explore creativity at the intersection of art and innovation. Organized by Third Place Technologies and Future Arts, with the support of Cornish College of the Arts and Artist Trust, the event sparked inspiring conversations and connections within our community.

During the Rapid Talks session, I presented Ioleography: Mapping Memory in the Arctic, sharing how my laser plane photography technique reveals the fleeting traces of movement, from human bodies in Seattle to the shifting landscapes of the Arctic. Through this process, I use light as both sculptural medium and poetic lens to explore memory, transformation, and climate change.

In the evening, I presented a Laser Plane Installation, inviting participants to step into the plane and experience their own movements made visible through light. Capturing these luminous gestures, what I call ioleograms, was a beautiful way to connect technology, presence, and human expression.

It was an inspiring day of exchange and discovery, and I’m grateful to have shared my work among such a creative and forward-thinking community.
